UArizona invited to expand public education inclusivity in northern Kazakhstan

The University of Arizona and Kozybayev University are exploring collaborative programs in special education, focused on developing skills and techniques of future teachers for educating children with mild to moderate disabilities.

During a recent UArizona delegation visit to Kozybayev University, Dr. Robert Q. Berry III, dean of education, Dr. Bruce Johnson, dean emeritus and professor, teaching, learning & sociocultural studies, Dr. Toni L. Sparks, associate professor of practice, disability psychoeducational studies, and Dr. Sunggye Hong, associate professor of practice, disability psychoeducational studies, held discussions with Kozybayev representatives with the aim of launching a new program in fall 2023.


Earn Two Degrees At Once

Earn a Bachelor of Science in Applied Biotechnology from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from Kozybayev University.

Our interdisciplinary program provides a solid foundation in microbiology, plant biology, food science, and nutrition. You’ll learn how to use microorganisms and plants in modern food production, medicine, and the chemical industry.

Information Science

Earn a Bachelor of Science in Information Science: Data Science from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Management from Kozybayev University.

Students will develop advanced skills in data science and the crucial ways that data science can be used in the real world, including: applied classes in data mining, principles and practices of data science; uses for big data, such as data engineering and database development; applied cyber infrastructure concepts, as well as applications to machine learning and algorithm development.

Special Education

Earn a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in Primary Education, Defectology - Speech Therapy or Psychology in Education from Kozybayev University and a Bachelor of Science in Education in Special Education from the University of Arizona.

Have a meaningful impact on the lives of children and adolescents with mild to moderate disabilities. Students will gain knowledge and skills to effectively help students with autism spectrum disorder, learning and intellectual disabilities, and emotional and behavioral disorders. Students examine and gain planning, preparation and engagement skills, directed by goals, objectives and learning styles of individuals.


The dual degree in biotechnology will prepare students to perform basic and applied research in academic, institutional, or government laboratories; develop innovative products including vaccines, enzymes, and biofuels. Career options include:
